An Embroidered Rake: Jane Austen Villain George Wickham Gets Stitched

I just realized that this handsome devil never got his own post! When I found out about the &Stitches Villains Stitchalong back in October, it didn’t take me long to choose the perfect fictional villain. Jane Austen’s George Wickham is an unapologetic rascal through-and-through…he had to be hooped.

I based the line drawing on Adrian Lukis’s Wickham from the BEST version of Pride & Prejudice, the 1995 BBC version. Then, I added a ring of descriptive labels…just in case anyone was fooled by his pretty face. Don’t fall for him, Ladies & Gents! He’s a cad!

I loved BookBub’s Definitive Ranking of Jane Austen’s Heroes, but was shocked – shocked, I tell you – to see Wickham place so relatively high on the list. Pearls may have been clutched, gentle reader. He’s THE WORST…definitely worse than poor Mr. Collins. (And, while I’m discussing the rankings, lets move Mr. Tilney and Colonel Brandon higher up the list). *sigh*

I don’t care how good he looks in a uniform, Ms. Austen warns us that he is BAD NEWS…

…that is some serious SHADE being thrown in Wickham’s direction.

Question time! Who’s YOUR favorite fictional villain? And, isn’t Mr. Wickham just THE WORST?
